As Filipinos prepare to vote in the upcoming midterm elections on May 12, 2025, it’s more than just a political event—it’s an opportunity to reflect Christ’s love, truth, and justice in our communities.

Local midterm elections in the Philippines determine not only the future of cities and provinces but also the direction of daily services that affect families, churches, and vulnerable communities. From governors to mayors, councilors to party-list groups—each position influences public policy and moral culture.

So how should we, as Christians, approach this important moment?

1. Pray First, Vote After

Before casting a vote, bow your head.

The Bible tells us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 to pray for all who are in authority. This means praying not just for those currently in power but also for those who will step into leadership. Ask God to raise up righteous leaders who will govern with wisdom, integrity, and compassion.

Pray that your vote aligns with His heart.

2. Seek Righteousness in Candidates

As Christians, we don’t vote for perfection—we vote for direction.

While no leader is flawless, we are called to support those who promote justice, protect life, serve the poor, fight corruption, and uphold moral and ethical standards.

Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”

Research your candidates well. Don’t just rely on popularity, party loyalty, or family name. Look into their record, platform, and character. Choose those who reflect godly values—not just in words, but in how they live and lead.

3. Use Your Voice with Wisdom and Grace

Elections are a time of division for many—but they don’t have to be for Christians.

We are called to be peacemakers. Whether online or in person, speak truth with grace (Colossians 4:6). Avoid fighting with others on social media. Instead, encourage respectful conversation, and always point people back to Christ.

Remember, your opinion may be strong—but your witness must be stronger.

4. Vote Not Just for Yourself—But for Others

Jesus taught us to love our neighbor. That includes the elderly, the poor, the children, and the marginalized. When you vote, think beyond your personal benefit. Vote for leaders who will care for the whole community.

Ask yourself: “Will this candidate fight for justice, education, honest governance, and protection for those who cannot defend themselves?”

As followers of Christ, we are called to be defenders of the voiceless (Proverbs 31:8-9).

5. Respect the Outcome, Trust God Always

No matter who wins, our mission remains the same: to be salt and light.

Even if our chosen candidates don’t succeed, we trust that God remains sovereign. Let us not lose hope or fall into bitterness. Instead, let’s continue to serve, pray, and act with love for our nation.

Romans 13 reminds us that all authority is established by God. We may not always understand His ways, but we can always trust His plan.

💬 Conclusion: Don’t Just Elect Leaders. Be One.

Our role doesn’t end at the ballot box. In our homes, churches, schools, and workplaces—we are also called to lead by example.

So this election season, let’s be prayerful, wise, respectful, and loving. Let our choices reflect our faith. Let our actions reflect Christ.

🗳️ Mark your calendar: May 12, 2025.
Let’s pray, vote, and shine the light of Jesus in our nation.
